Avon Street Multimodal Improvements

Project Description

The conception of this project was inspired by the Avon Street (RE)Vision study conducted by Line+Grade Engineering. Additionally, bike and pedestrian facility needs were identified in the Charlottesville Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan. City improvements would begin at the Avon and Druid Avenue intersection. The road will be restriped to include two 11โ€™ travel lanes, which will involve widening on the west side of the road, and two 5โ€™ bicycle lanes. A 5โ€™ sidewalk on the west side of Avon would span from the Bridge to where the existing sidewalk begins at Palatine Avenue. The removal on-street parking is being considered to add additional sidewalks north from Palatine Avenue to Druid, while supplementing parking elsewhere. Changes to the stormwater system would likely be made by undergrounding the drainage system and developing stormwater retention or treatment system.
