Notice of Public Meeting

On September 22nd at 6:30pm, the MPO will be hosting a public meeting on the MPO’s intent to apply for Smart Scale Funding for traffic and bike/pedestrian improvements on US-250 from St Clair Ave. to Olympia Dr. The MPO is applying for $27.9 million in State transportation funds to cover the cost of public engagement, design and build for the project.

The MPO has identified a need for transportation improvements on the US-250 corridor in the vicinity of Free Bridge. As part of the needs assessment, the MPO undertook an 18-month study known as the (Eco-Logical: Free Bridge Congestion Relief) study. This study evaluated a set of alternatives and made recommendations on a final most preferred alternative.

The proposed improvements include adding two additional lanes to US-250 (one eastbound and one west bound) across Free Bridge. The project also proposes to make intersection improvements at two intersections: US-250 and River Rd./E High Street and US-250 at Riverbend Dr./Stony Point Rd. Additional information about the project is available on the MPO website at campo.tjpdc.org/eco-logical/eco-logical-pilot-project/

The meeting will be held in the auditorium at Burnley-Moran Elementary School, 1300 Long Street, Charlottesville, VA 22901. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend. Comments may also be submitted via telephone, email or letter to the MPO: POB 1505, Charlottesville, VA 22902; phone (434) 979-7310; email: info@tjpdc.org.
