The Charlottesville-Albemarle MPO (CAMPO) and the Staunton-Augusta-Waynesboro MPO (SAWMPO) will hold their second annual joint meeting on Wednesday, October 26, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at the Fishersville Transit Facility at 51 Ivy Ridge Lane, Fishersville, VA.

SAWMPO and CAMPO share many transportation interests and projects, including multimodal needs along the I-64 Corridor connecting the two MPOs, public transit between the two regions, and the restoration of the Claudius Crozet Blue Ridge Tunnel.  With only seven miles separating the two MPO boundaries, the MPOs strive to maximize their resources and expertise to address transportation issues that are critical to both MPO regions.

At the meeting on the 26th, two very important studies that are being jointly developed by the MPOs will be discussed:

  • The Inter-Regional Transit Study – this project is evaluating the feasibility of implementing commuter transit service along the I-64/I-81 corridor connecting the cities of Charlottesville, Waynesboro, Staunton, and Harrisonburg.  The consultant team will present a final draft at the meeting with recommendations for potential future implementation.
  • The Shenandoah/Piedmont Area Collaborative Effort (SPACE 64) Project – With recent funding from FHWA through its SHRP II grant program, the two MPOs/PDCs will develop a process and Memorandum of Understanding for regular, on-going collaboration on multi-modal issues along the I-64 Corridor from Pantops (MM 124) to Staunton (MM 89).

The public is welcome to attend.
